Well-known French photo-artist Nathalie Darbellay, with numerous exhibitions and publications in her name, is holding her first show in Bangkok at Kathmandu Photo Gallery. ‘The Geography of Oneself’ features the cream of her notable series of shadow and reflection self-portraits. Mesmerising, eerie, dreamlike, her disorienting echo images suck in the viewer like a visual whirlpool.
“The image of oneself in a window, a mirror, a shadow…looks like a stranger one meets on a journey,” says Darbellay. “Fragmented reflections torture; they betray by their doubt of the faithful and unchanging character of the representation. To access with love the other in ourselves, alien and foreign, we invent a life in full colour.”
The exhibition is organized in the framework of LA FETE, the French & Thaï cultural festival of Bangkok.
