Bang Bang (you’re dead)

A photo exhibition by
Chamni Thipmanee

2 April – 29 May 2011

Prominent Thai photographer Chamni Thipmanee has long brooded over the problem of violence in Thai society. ‘Bang Bang (you’re dead)’, a photographic series of children playing with toy guns, manifests his fears, made timely at a moment when the culture of violence has gone viral across the land. We can get shot just meeting someone’s eyes or overtaking the wrong car. From kids with plastic guns to road rage – is it overkill to see a causal link? Chamni’s chilling candid snapshots of children imitating adults bring intimations of future violence.

Chamni Thipmanee (born 1940 in Songkhla) graduated in photography from The Istituto Europeo De Design in Rome, Italy. He has exhibited widely both locally and internationally. ‘Chamni’s Eye’, his studio, is the top commercial photography studio in the Thai advertising world..
